Sensational Sesame Sauce

Jen G on 21st Jul, 2014

This is literally one of the easiest sauces ever. No cooking required.

The taste is pure umami. Umami is the fifth taste that the Japanese named. We all taste sweet, sour, salty, bitter and umami. You know that roasted rich savoury taste you get from parmesan cheese, Marmite, and anchovies? That’s umami (in my head that is sung to the tune of that's amore Dean Martin style) its more-ish and addictive.

Sensational Sesame Sauce

This is very similar to the common Japanese sauce gomadare but that often involves sake and some other faffing about, so go with this much simpler version, no taste compromise!

I like this with poached chicken breasts, as a stir fry sauce or even a dip for crudities. I've even spread it on toast. Tastes amazingly like peanut butter, but minus the peanuts it’s ideal for anyone who can't have them. This is just the best thing you could whip in in an emergency out of store cupboard ingredients, a clever trick to have up your sleeve.

I served mine in the picture as Broccoli & sesame sauce, which tasted amazing with my Spam sushi, aka Hawaiian rolls. Pair them together and you have the easiest make ahead starter for a crowd. Try it, let us know what you think!
