Sophie E on 12th Feb, 2019

Valentines Day is days away. Have you, like me, had enough of packing yourself between 50 other lacklustre lovers in an overcrowded ‘bijou’ bistro?

Preparing for Valentines: drinks to rev up the romance

We all know what I am talking about - the twice-the-price menu, the Chateaubriand burnt, the limp lifeless salad – are all enough to deflate the most mega of mojos.

We at The Dinner Set are making a romantic meal at home. And with no exhausting, romance-draining commute home at the end of it, there’s plenty left in the tank for the loved one….

Before reading our romantic drinks, why not watch our  top 10 tips to avoid Valentine’s dinner disaster?

Don't stop at Valentines!

If you're lookng to make more speical moments, why not try our quarterly Dinner Club Box- packed with extraordinary not-on-the-high street ingredients and easy make-ahead recipes - for the perfect evening at home. Trial us today and get a free box.

In the meantime, you’d better stock the fridge with some booze to get you in the mood. Here are some drinks ideas from our resident sommelier Nathan to get your evening fizzling…

Valentine's loves bubbles

Non alco? A soft drink I would say a sparkling water cooler. Add citrus fruit, or even savoury herbs to sparkling water to create different variations to pair with each course.

Drink pink

The sales of rose champagne usually peak around Valentines day - why not join the crowds by grabbing a bottle of the subtly pink Lindauer Special Reserve NV (buy 2 @ £11 each) or the properly rose L'Extra par Langlois Cremant de Loire  (buy 2 @ £11 each) at Majestic. No need to tell your loved one that you got them on special offer…. These sparklers are guaranteed to start your special meal with a bang. If you haven’t gulped it all down by then, they’ll pair with plenty of starters on our site too – from pate to salmon gravlax.

The next question is what to eat? Trial our DIinner Set Club today and get a free Club box worth £29.99.
